The Great Escape

I'm really coming around to the idea that cutting the banksters out of the deal, makes things a whole lot better. The US govt. should print money: period. No one else, especially private corps. like the Fed should be allowed to print money. The US people vote on how the money will be used. Banks are only allowed to lend money THEY HAVE (not like now where they "create" money to lend). This way, the US govt. doesn't owe anyone a dime for re-building a bridge or a freeway. We still have to pay back what we owe, but our creditors have a choice of whether they receive Fed Reserve Notes or the new US currency, printed by the US Treasury.

The banking industry was powerful enough to put itself in the middle of EVERYTHING in our lives. They got their cut of the stimulus bucks first when Obama wasn't even in power yet. When people tell me to "open my eyes," they usually mean that someone I agree with is imperfect. When I say "open your eyes" from now on I mean one thing, in particular to my one-tracked, fiscally-focused compatriots: 1) "Where's your money going?" 2) "Who's the man behind the curtain?"

What we have now: 1) The US government borrows money from conglomerated banks known as the "Fed" for anything it does beyond what is collected in taxes. When we need to print money, the US government borrows from the fed via Treasury bonds.

What we could have (and have had in the past): 1) Only the US govt prints money, and doesn't owe anyone a DAMN thing for doing so. 2) The people elect the officials and therefore participate in deciding how the money will be used. In time of economic downturn, my vote would go towards massive construction projects putting people to work making their cities beautiful and safe again. Others may vote for no taxes on anyone forever, but will hopefully allow that some money be used to set up decent healthcare for everyone and maybe a govt agency that keeps our food safe. Clean slate. Just like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, we really do have everything we need to solve all of our problems. People just need to open their eyes.

Now We Know What Life Would Be Like Under a Tea Party Government...

Ask yourself this: "If these Tea Party nutbags hadn't been elected in 2010, would we:
1) be in a "crisis" right now?
(2) Would we be telling the world "We might not pay our bills?"
(3)Would Boehner be compiling a truly POINTLESS bill that may not even make it out of the Republican House, but will most certainly not pass the senate at the eleventh-and-a-half hour?

No! I give the Tea Party NO PASS because they are "TRYING." Whether "trying" to force a balanced-budget amendment or economic meltdown on all of us, they are showing the country what a Tea Party-ruled country would look like.

Boehner even wants us to go through this same exercise every six-months, just like third-world countries often go begging to the IMF every six months. I know many of my Face Book friends don't want to say it. They insist saying that it is "both sides fault." Well I don't mind saying that the Tea Party has already been devastating for this country and our economy. Just look at how they have caused chaos within the Republican party. They have the Republicans making plans that have no chance of seeing the light of day, and holding our economy as a hostage while doing so. If they can do this much damage under a democratic majority, imagine how dismal things would be with a Tea Party president or congress.

R.I.P Tea Party, July 25th 2011

This day will go down in history as the death of the Tea Party. Every astroturf-rally and bus tour packed with Koch-and-Murdoch-employee zealots has led these Wallmart-Partick-Henrys to this day in their destiny.

Talk about a perfect storm! You have the Republicans who are heavily leveraged by Tea Party members begrudgingly carrying out the instructions of their corporate masters: "Not one penny more of taxes nor tax reform for the wealthy! Don't give an inch! The American people will thank us for protecting the "job creators"! A great plan, and seems like it might just work in this day and age.

Two things the Republicans didn't count on: 1) The Faux News machine being in serious crisis at this point in their destiny,, and hence low-noise-level right now 2) Obama done told it! "...the Republicans' spending-cuts-only approach..." FRICKIN BRILLIANT!!

I remember when the city of Tempe was trying to get approval to build Cardinals Stadium in Tempe. Someone at the city of Glendale pointed out that the stadium was located in a flight approach path at Sky Harbor. From that point on, Tempe began to lose the stadium. City of Glendale's argument: "Tempe is not a safe location" City of Tempe's argument: "It's pretty safe."

Obama's argument: "A multi-prong attack is best." Republicans' argument: "A single-prong attack is pretty good."

My Republican-supporting-(none seem to want to call themselves "Republicans")-buddies don't even understand that the Tea Party died today.  "Where is Obama's plan?" they ask? This question is currently being repeated ad-infinitum on Murdoch's media...the best riff they can do against Obama's balanced approach to the problem. So much for him being a "dangerous extremist."

Sure, the Republicans have a plan: a plan to destroy Medicare and Social Security and balance the budget on the backs of the poor and unemployed while giving the wealthiest Americans an extension to their 30-year tax holiday.

That is the Republican plan. Congratulations to the Republicans for planning the destruction of our economy in advance. Don't worry, you guys get brownie points for your planning abilities no matter what happens! Regardless of your intentions or any unforeseen disastrous results which may result from your experimentation in turning our economy into a nation of deadbeats, we applaud and laud you for your crisp execution via visualization, sloganeering and obfuscation through your media machine. Congrats for the smooth move! It's practically a done deal! How proud the Republican party must be today. God Bless Ronald Reagan, who got the ball rolling, and also raised taxes 14 times and who would be considered a raging liberal today, probably even by Obama.

Speaking of Obama, I hope he stays "mad" until this thing gets done. Let Republicans call him pushy, or whatever. Just don't let that small group of wingnuts act for and control the whole country. That's the most serious fail condition, IMHO. Soapbox down.

Oh, and don't let the door hit yr butt on the way out, Tea Party. Thanks for alerting all our creditors that we sometimes allow the lunatics to run the asylum.

A Daily Show story that you must not miss! Republicans pull off a PR coup by semantics: "repeal of "Job-Killing" Health Care Bill." Thankfully, in light of the recent tragedy, they are willing to negotiate renaming the bill to "job-destroying." As Stewart says, "job-killing, in the sense that getting more sleep is "awake-killing."

*** BONUS *** Watch the Fox News Anchor attempt to shape the message by cutting off their whiny "Liberal" flack even after he promises him "the last word".

Do people really go for this crap??? Is this thing on?

On Palin, Glenn Beck and being "Socialistic"

Recently, someone posted in a Facebook thread:

"..you actually feel America would be better off if we were socialistic?"

I'm sure this isn't a surprise to most of you, but America has many facets of "Socialism" woven into the national thread already. Examples include: 1) Police Force 2) Fire-fighters 3) State and Interstate Highways etc etc...So ANY country which has ANY of those things has "Socialism" in the govt. already. Like trying to take away people's guns, the "Anti-Socialists" are going to start getting a lot of crap if they try to start actually taking away our roads, our bridges and letting our houses blaze away.

I understand this guy doesn't want the extreme idea of Socialism, but I doubt he wants to live in Nairobi (the other extreme) either...The least amount of govt. can be found in the poorest countries on earth. Jefferson said that the government "which governs least, governs best," but he also set up the education system for this country and felt that education of the common man was paramount to "nurturing this democracy." So why do typical folks who decry "Socialism" with nearly every breath want to begin chopping away at our already-underfunded educational systems as a typical first choice? I thought they were getting all "founding fathers" on our collective asses.

Palin is done. Her numbers tanked after her last speech "I'm the victim" disaster. Even her big PR-fest planned with Sean Hannity isn't going to help her now. Beck is still dangerous, because some people actually believe he is teaching them something. He points the finger at "liberals" for everything wrong in the world like Hitler pointed at the Jews.

On the tenants of being "Socialistic," I forgot to mention libraries and post offices, which were invented by Ben Franklin for crying out loud...

On not ever meeting Timothy Leary...

I would have loved to have met Timothy Leary.  I read a lot of his books when I was in a very counter-culture phase of my life. People say that folks my age are "boomers," but I believe that we are on the cusp at most if not at the beginning of generation X. We missed out on the hippie years watching cartoon hippies on Saturday mornings.
I have a friend that played in a popular band that saw Leary at a big LA party. He said the crowd there was too young there to recognize Leary. So Leary, not talking to anyone, decided to amuse himself by doing something on a calculator. The calculator was solar-powered, and kept failing due to low lights at the party. So he eventually managed to keep the calculator going by lighting matches, one after another, laughing the whole time.

Time of reflection...

I was fooled by a photo-shopped voter registration record of Jason Loughner someone had posted a couple of days ago, showing he had registered as "Republican".
When I mentioned to someone in a FB thread that I thought Loughner was registered as a Republican, I got a reply on the thread that the screenshot was fake and this person figured I knew it but was "spreading lies anyway" and that I was a "worthless POS" for doing so, and then this individual FB "blocked" me.

I live in AZ and Giffords is one of my best friend's reps in Tucson. I admit I was overcome by sadness and then anger for the violent language that we are subjected to from certain News media. I even figured Laughner must be a Glenn Beck fan, due to some peculiarities within his artifacts. Later, I learned that there is a bona-fide hate group called "Sovereign Citizens" that matches many of his ideas more closely.

During this time I remembered that I, myself have called our current governor "murderous" because she would rather build new baseball stadiums than provide promised-organs to those needing transplants in our state.

Now, I just am thankful that Roger Ailes of Fox has asked his broadcasters to "tone it down" so as not too provide any fodder for those currently doing web searches for "vitriolic rhetoric," and for the first time ever, I've witnessed Rush on the defensive. I am taking a vow to never again refer to our governor as "murderous." It doesn't really help push the issue in the right direction, in my opinion.

Tragic Shooting in Tucson

It's hard not to say something about the brutal shooting of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. I agree with Sheriff Dupnik: This is a time for reflection on who we are as a nation. We've never been so polarized. I believe the "the vitriolic rhetoric" Dupnik was referring to in his statement was aimed squarely at the likes of Fox News, especially Glen Beck, Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity.

Someday, people will begin to realize that it may be OK for someone to wail for hours "Obama and the Socialists are tearing down our country...why won't someone stop these terrorists in our government??...liberals and gays are raping our country, why doesn't anyone stop them?" as long as the viewing audience is not mentally disturbed, but when this crap is viewed by someone who is mentally disturbed, then the outcome is tragic.

Think I'm off-base? The shooting suspect had these traits: a) had an obsession with the letter of the Constitution; b) spoke of "current treasonous laws"; c) spoke of "currency not backed by gold"; d) mentioned "illegal illiterate pigs"; e) had a sense of paranoia toward the government.

Doesn't this rhetoric sound familiar?
